If you just graduated or had a senior that just graduated, chances are you are thinking about what dorm essentials and decor you will need to buy this summer. As a mom who has already been through a college move in with her daughter, here are 10 Dorm Room Essentials to have that will make the college Freshman year a little easier!
10 Must Have Items for Your Dorm
1. Shower Caddy-Unless your college dorm has a private bathroom, chances are you will need a shower caddy. Even with a semi private bathroom, there are items that you won't want to leave in the shower. These come in a variety of sizes and mostly commonly are plastic but here is a cute mesh option from Bed, Bath and Beyond!
2. Towels-You might receive these as gifts and not have to purchase them but they are definitely essential for your dorm. Depending on how often you do laundry (or bring it home) will determine how many you need.
3. Bedding- Of course you'll want to bring a comforter or blanket and a sheet set. Don't forget to check the bed size - A lot of beds on college campuses are Twin XL.
4. Keurig-This is essential if you're a coffee drinker. Most college campuses have a coffee shop on campus or within walking distance but if you're running late having this in your room will be a life saver. You can thank me later!
5. Mini-Fridge - When I went to college(many moons ago), we could rent a mini fridge for the year. These days they are much more affordable and compact. Essential to keeping your beverages ice cold and any snacks that need refrigerated.
6. Command Strips-When I moved my daughter into her dorm one of the rules was nothing could puncture the walls and could only be held up by command strips. Regardless of the size, they will come in handy to hang up clothes, pictures, lights, etc...
7. Power Strips- Chances are your dorm room will have limited outlets and you'll be sharing them with a roommate. Having a power strip will help to make sure you have enough outlets for all of the power you need.
8. Rain Coat or Umbrella- Long walks across campus will be a lot more comfortable in the rain if you have one of these or better yet, both! There's nothing like sitting in a lecture hall freezing in the air conditioning because you got soaked in the rain running to class.
9. Space Saving Hangers- If you have a lot of clothes like I do, these hangers will come in handy! Dorm rooms definitely have limited closet space so a few these will let store more of your must haves in your closet.
10. Under the bed storage- This is another necessity to have all of your must have clothing items available, especially if you're not going to live close to your hometown. A couple of these and your wardrobe should be safe!
